We have an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow to work on NIH-funded research in bioinformatics. Our lab is dedicated to developing integrative computational tools that leverage multi-omics biological and clinical datasets to infer disease-associated genes, regulatory interactions and patient-specific drug response. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team to work on cutting-edge research projects to apply data mining/machine learning approaches on high dimensional biological and clinical datasets. The initial appointment is one year with the possibility of renewal based on performance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or closely related field
  • Strong publication record in one or more of the following areas: computational biology/bioinformatics, biomedical informatics, deep learning/machine learning, data mining, biostatistics, or a closely related area.
  • Proficiency in software development skills in programming languages such as R and Python.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research experience in computational biology/bioinformatics/biomedical informatics is preferred. However, strong research experience in developing/applying deep learning/machine learning/data mining/data science methods on other domains/datasets will also be considered.
  • Strong communication and scientific writing skills.
  • Expertise in software engineering with documentation, version control, and code releases.
  • Expertise in Linux and high-performance computing environments.
  • Experience in parallel programming (MPI, GPU, etc.).

Current students

MS/Undergraduate/TAMS students:

For MS and undergrad students, first please check our recent publications and research interests to see if you have interest in our research program. Please note that we are generally unable to offer any funding in the beginning. Thus, if you are interested only in a paid position, please consider other labs. Also, we do not control TA/IA positions, please email to the graduate studies director for such inquiries. If you have strong skills and experience in programming and machine learning/deep learning, and willing to volunteer for at least one semester, please email to Dr. Bozdag with your CV and transcript. After the initial voluntary period, some funding could be possible based on performance. Students who have interest to continue to PhD are especially encouraged to apply.

PhD students

If you are an incoming or existing PhD student, who is looking for an advisor, please check our recent publications and research interests to see if you have interest in our research program. We are open to students from a wide variety of programs (e.g., computer science, bioinformatics, mathematics, computational sciences, biomedical engineering, data science, etc.) Strong programming skills and motivation to learn new concepts are expected. Contact Dr. Bozdag for more information.

Prospective Ph.D. students

Please read about our research interests and check out our recent publications. If you are interested, please send an email to Dr. Bozdag with your CV, transcripts and GRE/TOEFL scores (if available). Check for more information about the PhD in Computer Science and Engineering at UNT.

A general advice: Professors get many emails from prospective students. If you want to increase your chance for a response, you can read this and this for suggestions and email templates.
